It's more than just what you teach—it's how you teach it.

I've been tutoring since I was in 2nd grade—it's a long story...

Therefore, I've had years to create and refine a tutoring method that has led to great successes among students with a diversity of approaches to learning.

I, along with my team of mostly Ivy League graduates, offer personalized one-on-one tutoring for standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, etc.) and a wide variety of academic subjects from elementary through high school.

Jason McNeely, Founder of Everything in Mind

Ever since graduating from Harvard University with a degree in Psychology, I have had what I consider my dream job as a private tutor in New York City. While working with students from so many different New York City schools (Horace Mann, Chapin, Dalton, Spence, Trinity, Fieldston, and UNIS just to name a few) and more recently with online students from around the world, I am constantly reminded that it is even more important to know how to teach than it is to know what to teach. Having studied numerous approaches to learning, I have a broad "tool kit" to draw from; thus, I have been able to benefit students from every confidence level, no matter how scary they find their course work or standardized testing.

Test Prep Tutoring

I'm a firm believer that preparing for the admissions process doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Our test prep techniques make the potentially daunting task much more manageable for both students and parents. We currently offer tutoring for the following tests:

  • SAT (including PSAT)
  • ACT
  • SAT Subject Tests
  • ISEE/SSAT/SHSAT
  • Other specialized tests upon request

High School

Elementary

Elementary school is the time to kick off the educational experience with a bang! Some students need help untangling these new ways of learning, while other students need an outlet for deeper, more personalized enrichment. Assisting all types of young learners during this stage, our tutoring practice includes

  • All elementary school academic subjects
  • Standardized test prep, such as ISEE and SSAT

Middle School

The middle school years comprise a critical time during which a student cements lifelong organizational skills and study techniques. The tutoring practice during these years forms a structure through which a student learns these vital processes, ensuring a smoother transition into high school. Our middle school tutoring curriculum focuses on the following areas:

  • Organizational development
  • Study practices and habits
  • All middle school academic subjects
  • Standardized test prep, such as ISEE and SSAT

High School

It truly “gets real” during the high school years. Of course you have the SAT and/or ACT to face, but you are also creating that all-important transcript every step of the way. During a time in which every grade counts, it is more important than ever for a student to achieve at his or her best level. In addition to standardized test prep, we offer tutoring for the following subjects:

  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Trigonometry
  • Pre-Calculus
  • Calculus
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • English
  • History

Online Tutoring

Live, one-on-one online tutoring sessions offer access to the same content available during in-person sessions, but from the convenience of your computer, tablet, or phone. Online tutoring is specifically geared toward

  • Students who live outside of New York City
  • International students
  • Any student who needs atypical scheduling times
  • Existing students looking to supplement in-person sessions

Testimonials

  • Jason is a terrific tutor; I highly recommend him. He was always prompt, kind, respectful and a joy to have in our home. Jason quickly figured out my son's strengths and weaknesses and then concentrated on material my son needed most. No time was wasted reviewing concepts already grasped; my son was challenged and engaged, never bored. After working with Jason, my son took the SAT in the fall of his junior year and did so well he didn't need to retake it. The following spring, Jason worked with my son prior to taking the SAT II Math II. It was just a few sessions, but very worthwhile because Jason helped him ace the test!

    - Karen, parent of Dalton graduate
  • My son was resistant to being tutored at all! He thought he could do it on his own. We believed he would benefit from help, and we hired Jason because we thought there would be good chemistry. We were right, and our son responded so favorably to Jason. Best of all, the results of the tutoring were evident in our son's ACT scores, which were so strong that he took the test once... and he was done!

    - Diane O., mother of a student at Dalton
  • Our children's approaches to the test could hardly have been more different, and yet Jason was able to adapt his technique to suit each of them perfectly. But the thing that we were probably most (pleasantly) surprised by was the fact that both Kasey and Jake actually looked forward to their tutoring sessions.

    - Philip K.
  • Jason has found a way to motivate my two sons throughout their high school years. They each have very different learning styles and Jason was able to find a way to help each of them succeed. Jason is truly the best!

    - Mindy Levine, mother of students at Poly Prep
  • I think Jason's approach is so successful because he really tries to help his students understand the material rather than to simply have them memorize a bunch of esoteric formulas. The 'tricks' he teaches are rooted in the knowledge of real subject matter. This not only aids in recall during a nerve-wracking testing situation, but also gives skills that are useful once the SATs are over.

    - Sarah, mother of students at Spence and Trinity
  • We just kept throwing subjects at Jason, and he just kept helping us with each one. One week it would be a history project and the next week, an algebra test. But our daughter always improved her grades whenever Jason was involved.

    - Laura, mother of student at Brearley
